Brain Games (K-4th grade):
Hosted by Romona's very own Beverly Taylor and/or Cindy Palmer, children will explore a variety of games--from abstract board games to quick-thinking word skills games. Playing or working either independently or together in groups, students will utilize critical and cognitive thinking skills while experiencing new, challenging activities. Game on kids! Gather your friends (or teammates) for some friendly competition playing a variety of new, cool games! We’ve added some new games and puzzles this year!

Chess Club (K-4th grade) – BEGINNING AND CONTINUING:
Your kids will enjoy the mental challenge of chess while developing their concentration, visualization, planning and focus skills. Studies have shown that the development of these skills contribute to academic success. And don’t forget the fun! There is a possibility of competing in local tournaments.

SAY CHEESE! FUN with DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY – NEW- (1st-3rd grade)!!
Say cheese! Working with a partner, you’ll use a digital camera to take digital photos. Then, learn a special software just for young photographers and add special effects to your pics using graphic art editing tools. You’ll create your very own portfolios or digital scrapbooks and other great projects!

Your child’s dream to play the drums can be a reality – and at little cost and effort to you! Join Justin Lack as he walks your child through basic drumming. Rhythm is essential for all types of music – learning the drums can help hone your child’s rhythmic ability for all instruments, not to mention it is lots of fun. Drumming class is for ½ hour in a small group of 4-5 students. Your child will spend the last ½ hour in our Let’s Build It club. Drum included for class use. Fencing – Swordplay (1st-4th grades) – Tuesdays – BEGINNING AND CONTINUING
We will be using special plastic fencing weapons with buzzing tips to allow for easier control and increased safety. This class provides a great environment for kids to do one of the things they enjoy most – play with swords! Students will learn basic en garde position, advance and retreats, salute, lunge, extend, beat attack and parry riposte. We will talk about target area and basic rules of fencing. This class will use games to develop speed, reaction time and balance. All equipment provided.

Guitar (K -4th):
Strum away. Your child will love the freedom and cool factor of learning this very versatile instrument. Jewelry Making (1st-4th grades) BEGINNING AND CONTINUING:
Express yourself artistically. Make Romona spirit bracelets; and Bead 'people'; braided/beaded necklaces; bookmarkers; stone necklaces; keychains; and friendship bracelets as some of the options. All yours to make and take home, for yourself or holiday presents. Ms. Dzikoski, known for her artistic aptitude, will inspire your children to get in touch with their creative side. Let’s Build It (K-4th):
Let’s Build It is for all those who enjoy building or putting things together. We’ll be using various materials such as blocks, straws, paper tubes, marble tower mazes, architecture blocks, Lincoln Logs and even Tinker Toys. This is a great place to test your building skills for balance, design and stability.
This class is a mini version of the Bev Taylor’s popular summer school class. (Min/Max: 5/10), $55.

Line Dance Around the World (K-4th):
Line Dancing is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps in which a group of people dance. Line dancing varies depending on which part of the world you are and are performed for a variety of cultural events! In this class students will not only learn basic dance moves and coordination but also learn about different parts of the world and what line dances are and mean to them! In this class students will learn 4-5 types of line dances: America-Country Dance, Middle East-Dabke, Russia-Bielolitza Kruglolitza, South America-Party Dances (Chacha Slide, Electric Slide), India-Dandiya & Raas.

Magic and balloon animals (K-4th):
Children love magic but they really love learning it and then getting to perform it! Children are guaranteed to have a great time as they learn a collection of fascinating and mesmerizing tricks! Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading and more. All materials are provided and each child receives a magic tricks to take home.
In the second part of this session you will learn to create Amazing balloon Animals. In this class we will take you through all the twists and ties and teach you everything you need to know to make those cool balloon animals you see at parties. You can learn the techniques needed to take a plain balloon and transform it into a fascinating balloon animal creation (like dogs, butterflies, swords, etc.) At the end of the class participants will get to take home all of the things they made and set of balloons and pump to practice.

Newspaper Club (1st-4th) BEGINNING AND CONTINUING:
Has your child ever dreamed of reporting the news? Or photographing it? Do they enjoy being “in the know”? Journaling and writing activities? If so, a spot on the brand new Romona Student Newspaper staff would be a perfect fit! Kids will use Word, Publisher and/or Comic Life to produce a student newspaper.

Pom Pons/Cheer (K – 4th grade):
This term DOUBLE THE FUN! Let Romona’s own Dani Schor introduce your child to the fun and energy of BOTH pom pons AND cheerleading. Combining the best of modern music, dance moves and school spirit, your child will have a fantastic time.

Props and Scenes – Willy Wonka (1st – 4th grade):
Does your child feel at home behind the scenes? Or are they starring in the Willy Wonka production and can’t get enough? This club will tap into their imagination as we make props and scenery for the big show! Be a part of the fantasy and creativity that will exude from the halls of Romona as we embark on our first ever school play! Don’t let your child miss out on the fun!

Rhythmic Gymnastics (K-4th grade) – Beginner and Continuing - Tuesdays
Blend the artistry of dance with the athleticism of gymnastics in this Olympic sport. Students will improve their balance, gracefulness, strength and self-confidence through basic training in ballet, dance and rhythmic equipment. As students progress to different levels, they will concentrate on developing their endurance, agility, manual dexterity, overall conditioning and discipline.

Tae Kwon Do (1st – 4th grade) – Beginner and Continuing:
Kids love to learn martial arts, what they don’t realize is that in doing so, they develop enhanced mental discipline, focus, concentration, self esteem, confidence, and assertiveness. They will also improve their motor skills, coordination, balance, and hand-eye coordination while learning about discipline, respect, and honor. For those students continuing, keep up the hard work to earn your belt.

Triple Play (1st-3rd)
This class features three sports: basketball, soccer and dogeball . Participants develop skills associated with each sport and have opportunities to use these skills in game situations. Emphasis is placed on skill development, teamwork and sportsmanship.
