PTA Update February 2012

Confessions From The President’s Desk:

Being your PTA President is not an easy job. Let’s face it: Its not glamorous. And sometimes, it’s not even fun. It may look easy, but it’s work—important work.

During the course of this school year, many parents have asked me, “How do you do it?” Typically, my answer lies somewhere around the sentiments of—“I just keep looking forward,” or “It’s not really that bad.” But I must confess. Right here, to everybody. I’m going to set the record straight, once and for all. This is how I (and many presidents before me) do it:

There is an incredible group of dedicated volunteers working around us at all times!

Whether you know it or not, there are always people working on behalf of YOUR children. The amount of dedication that comes from every PTA volunteer is completely awe-inspiring: from your Sister School Chairperson, to your Red Gala Committee….and everywhere in between. Whether they work for your children at night behind the scenes or you see them daily with their names on everything--EVERYONE has a role and everyone has a place in this great organization we call our Parent Teacher Association. Likewise, EVERY CHILD benefits from all the work done—your children and my children.

Please consider yourself or a friend (or both!) at this time of year, as our Nominating Committee is working hard to fill the positions needed to continue to support our school and our children with quality programming and events we've all come to know and love.

As I leave you with the recap below, of all things PTA-past and present, I would like to make my final two Confessions From the President’s Desk…and quite possibly the most important ones:

1. The President’s work is also meaningful and fun!

2. I don’t have a clue what I’m wearing to the Red Gala!

If you have any suggestions for me (keep it clean, people), want to share your ensemble ideas or want my candid advice, please email me! This is an opportunity I can’t pass up to have fun with my presidency ‘work’. president@romonapta.org

Here’s what was covered at our January General PTA Meeting:

• Guest speaker Laurie Cavalier spoke about the District 39 Education Foundation. She gave great specifics of how this worthy foundation touches the lives of our children every day.

• Nominations for next year’s Romona PTA are in full swing. Consider nominating yourself or a friend to directly benefit your child. Many hands make light work! Nominating@romonapta.org

• Parents of 4th graders are encouraged to join in and help the Highcrest PTO. Click here.

• Welcoming Committee is recreating itself. Email questions: welcoming@romonapta.org

• Save the Date: The International Festival date has been changed to April 22. More info, click here.

• R Clubs are running smoothly!

• Some Pride Pledge donors haven’t received their car cling. If this is you, email pridepledge@romonapta.org.

• Red Gala is all set for February 10 at Michigan Shores Club. Purchase tickets today by clicking here.

• Our “Lights, Camera, AUDITORIUM!” Campaign is moving along nicely. Check out its progress here.

• Family Game Night, 3/10: Enjoy a night of friendly competition for FREE. Learn more here.

• LAST General PTA Meeting, 3/21: Guest speakers, Drs. Lechner & Palzet will present, while we much on catering by Limelight. Don’t miss this!

I hope you and your children are settling into the new school year. With four boys in my house, I always welcome the new Fall routine. This truly is my favorite season!

Over the past few months, your PTA has been busy planning quality events and programs to offer your child and your family this year. Our mission is not only to bring your children curriculum-based enriching activities, but also to bring our Romona Community together as a whole. Welcome Back! August 2011
Happy New School Year! I hope you have enjoyed your summer break and are ready to get down to business. I am looking forward to another outstanding year for our Romona Community.

We have many events and programs planned for both you and your children this year. Be sure to glance through the Program Pipeline and mark your calendars for upcoming events. Come out and play, and have some fun!

I encourage everyone to get involved in your PTA. Your child is not just a student at Romona School, but a member of the entire Romona Community. And, even though our school is wonderfully rich with diversity, we also have many, many things in common! Let's celebrate those too. Bring your talents, your stories, your opinions and get involved, whether big or small. There are many opportunities, and there's room for everyone on the PTA. Remember that this is YOUR PTA. All of our work, our time and our money-earned goes directly back to YOUR CHILD. Become a Member today.

I look forward to seeing familiar faces very soon- and meeting many new ones! Feel free to contact me at any time.
